Pomegranate Crazy!

It was the fruit Persephone was deceived into consuming by Hades and had doomed her to eternity in the underworld. With seeds appearing as beautiful gems with a deep, rich red color, who wouldn't be tricked to taste such a fruit?

Since fall season began, I have been fruit obsessed with pomegranates. It's the most addicting fruit once you begin eating seed, after seed, after seed...and then some. Potently filled with three types of antioxidants that aid in the prevention of cancer and heart disease - tannins, anthocyanins, and ellagic acid and low in calorie (1/2 cup = 80 calories), it is my favorite fruit snack. I savor the luscious and sweet juice from each tear dropped shapped seeds and feel absolutely guilt free from such a vittle delight. The most unfortunately fact about it: it's a seasonal fruit that is on sale during the fall/winter season. Despite its shortness in availability, I consider it a traditional healthy holiday treat to enjoy from this year forward.
