Vittle Find: Max's of Manila in Waipahu

Left Top: Chicken Sig Sig, Left Bottom: Kare Kare, Top Right: Palabok, Right Bottom: Menu Items

I took my parents and family to Max's of Manila in Waipahu. I heard from another coworker that it was a decent place for Filipino food and decided to take the advice. My mother is Filipino and of course, loves Filipino food. She had the palabok which is what I have described growing up as, Filipino Spaghetti. My husband had the chicken sig sig which is sauteed chicken with chopped liver pieces. I had enjoy kare kare which is a beef oxtail stew made with peanut butter in the sauce (it was served with a side salty shrimp paste. My dad had a breakfast plate with fried beef and eggs. My daughter had fried chicken with pancit and rice. For appetizers, we shared the calamari and fried pig skin. Can't go wrong with fried anything, in my opinion.

It had been way too long since I had Filipino food. My grandmother knew how to make everything that was on the menu and wish her knowledge was passed down to me. Unfortunately, my mom isn't the greatest of cooks and didn't pick up on her mom's cooking. I will give credit that my mom did her best to cook for our family, so I can't complain. My cooking love and lessons came from Food Network.

If you've never had Filipino food, try this place out. Enjoy!
